Andrew's exclusive report from the Wagga Trail Marathon

Hello all,
I can recommend the trail marathon as an interesting course and well
worth the experience.  It had everything.  Running beside the river in
the fog, narrow trails through the hills, flowering wattles & scrub,
spooking cattle & dodging the stampede, rock climbing, ducking whilst
running though a 5ft high rail tunnel and also tour of the newer,
outer Wagga Wagga subdivisions.

The rocky sections reminded me very much of the hill run. The marathon
was much harder than I expected, difficult to maintain a running
rhythm, but much more interesting than road running.

I am happy with my result of 3h16m with an average heart rate of
171bpm. Based on my 32km training long runs I was expecting a 3:15 on
flat road.  I felt good at the start, went out too hard for the trail
course and by 30km I had switched to self preservation mode.  The
race winner did a neat 3 hours.

The race was friendly, extremely well organised, with a free sausage
sizzle after wards.  The trail track has a lot of diversity, you'd
never get bored.  I recommend it to all.
