Griffith Joggers August 16 In the final run of the Griffith Joggers Surfer Competition on Scenic Hill, none of the contenders for the trophy made it into the top ten, so there was no change to the placings and Gary Signor now has a valuable trophy to tuck under his arm on presentation night. Self confessed perpetual bridesmaid was Stewart Wood, and Paul Clancy at third probably hasn't been running with the ferals for long enough to know what the fuss was all about. Signor was thirteenth this week, Wood starting three minutes further back was sixteenth, with Clancy 21st. The rest of the top ten in the pointscore were Arun Tiwari, John Dodd, Glenys Greenaway, Brian Bellicanta, David Slattery, Tony Moers and Devansh Tiwari, in an unusually even competition where few runners scored more than twice in the higher placings. No records were broken on the hill this week as many runners were in recovery mode from last week's long runs, but Mitchell Forrest, after a few weeks off to rejuvenate, and the always youthful Ron Anson, started together and urged each other to first and third on the podium. They were split by early starter Jane Rudgley who was pipped by Forrest after leading most of the way, Rudgley running quicker thanks to left over City to Surf spirit. Also running well were Fletcher Josling at fourth, a regular short course high performer, and Adam Rudgley and Nicole Restagno at 24th and 25th with the day's fastest times. There was plenty of chat at the back end of the field as Jo Polkinghorne, Di Keenan, Tracey Josling and Teresa Burgess decided that placings were not so important this week. The back markers had the bulk of the placings in the 3.1km short course as the nine minute group had Dean Schmetzer claim first and Will Lyons, Ryan Altin and Emma Groat also in the top tern, Alex Forrest off ten minutes was second overall, but Isabella Minato again upheld the pride of the five minute group with her third place. Meg Signor and Liam Burgess were the fastest on the day. With one more competition to run in the race year, the Wardle Waddle looks to be determined as David Slattery has cleared out from the field, and has the biggest ever lead of over thirty kilometres. Only the minor places are debateable with Glenys Greenaway having a one run lead from John Dodd, and several others are close as well. This week sees the running of the annual Lakeview Classic with a choice of five kilometres and twelve kilometres and a bunch start, and running returns to the hill the following week with the Arsova Competition of handicapped runs.
