Race Report
Griffith Joggers Report for Saturday May 15 – Race Six
Race Six of the Griffith Ferals 2010 Winter
Competition proved that performance and gaining podium places is staying
on course and on knowing the right tracks to take.
Elio Minato took a whopping five minutes off last
week’s time to come home first by ensuring that he took the correct
track off firetrail three and run the correct distance. Not far behind
him was Rita McIver and Mark Gatto for podium places. That consistency
of effort, coupled with knowledge of the track also gave top ten places
to some of the more recent joggers in Justin Menzies and Gary Workman.
Trouble with a hamstring kept Ian Forest well back
in the field and out of the placings. This means that Maree Licastro
firmed her grip on the competition. With three races to go, the pressure
is on and it is still anyone’s race. And as fitness kicks in during the
coming months of the running season, runners can expect the handicapper
to behave like the Reserve Bank. Quick to raise rates, but slow to bring
them down again. Runners should remember that handicaps are a reward for
good running.
Despite the
short course ranks swelling with additional new members this
week, Anthony Forlico managed to stay in the lead with Elisa Rinaldo
coming home in second place despite her mother’s prediction of being
‘not very fast’. Chloe Heffer brought up third place.
Congratulations go to all Ferals who travelled away
for events over the weekend. To those who completed the Sydney Half
Marathon go praises and cheers for great efforts. The greatest effort,
though, was Teresa Burgess and her 100km run in the Blue Mountains. That
is an effort worthy of high praise. Well done.
The Griffith Joggers meet every Saturday at the
Green Water Tower at 4.30pm and cater for all ages and abilities.
